National Interest Content

The government has recently released a new advisory mandating all private TV channels in India to air national-interest content daily. The policy is a part of the new policy guidelines for uplinking and downlinking of television channels. The objective of this mandate is to create a sense of national and social awareness among the public and to promote public interest content.

Mandate for Public Service Broadcasts

30 Minutes of Daily Content Under the new rule, television channels are required to air public service broadcasts for a minimum of 30 minutes each day. The 30-minute slot can be split into smaller time slots, but it must not be aired between midnight and 6 in the morning. The content can be embedded in programs that are already being aired, ensuring that it does not disrupt the flow of regular programming.

National-Interest Content

Focussing on Social and National Issues The national-interest content focuses on topics that are of national and social importance, such as environmental protection, disaster management, public health and hygiene, education, and more. The purpose of this content is to create a sense of awareness and promote public interest in these issues. It is an attempt to educate and inform the public about the challenges and opportunities that they face in their daily lives.
