National Statistics Day
National Statistics Day is observed on June 29 each year since 2006. It coincides with the birth anniversary of the father of Indian statistics – Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis – who played a key role in constituting the National Statistics System. It was introduced by the Indian Government to promote the use of statistics in the daily lives of people.
The theme for this year is End Hunger, Achieve Food Security and Improved Nutrition and Promote Sustainable Agriculture (SDG 2). The Sustainable Development Goal 2 seeks to eradicate global hunger in all its forms by the end of this decade and achieve global food security.
