NavIC: India’s Rising Navigation Star

The Navigation in Indian Constellation (NavIC) is an innovative step by India towards establishing its own navigation system. Developed by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), NavIC serves as an Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System (IRNSS) that aims to offer precise positioning and timing information to users in India and neighboring regions. Since its inception in 2012, the system has seen a rise in application across various sectors, notably in transportation and personal mobility. Its significance was further highlighted when it gained acknowledgment from the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP), an influential entity that sets standards in mobile telephony globally.
