The National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA), New Delhi has recently made an announcement to engage its audience during the Covid-19 pandemic. The institution is set to launch an online art program, entitled NAIMISHA 2020. This Summer Art Program will run from the 8th of June 2020 until the 3rd of July 2020.
Understanding NAIMISHA 2020
NAIMISHA 2020 is the NGMA’s response to keep the artistic community connected during these trying times. This initiative provides a platform for participants and art enthusiasts alike, offering them the opportunity to create and learn with practising artists.
The programme is carefully designed to include online workshops covering a variety of artistic disciplines, including painting, sculpture, printmaking and indrajaal- an interdisciplinary creative workshop. As a means of celebrating and showcasing the works produced through these workshops, selected artworks will be exhibited on So’ham, the cultural media platform of NGMA.
An Introduction to So’ham
So’ham stands as India’s first cultural media platform under the banner of NGMA. The vision behind this platform is to foster a dialogue between the NGMA, artists, and art enthusiasts. It draws inspiration from the Vedic philosophy of So’ham, signifying one’s identity and its connection to the universe.
A Closer Look at NGMA
Established in 1954, the National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA) is located at the Jaipur House in New Delhi. The institution is managed as a subordinate office to the Ministry of Culture, Government of India.
In addition to its primary location in New Delhi, the NGMA also operates two additional branches, situated in Mumbai and Bengaluru respectively. One of the key objectives of the NGMA is to acquire and preserve works of modern art, dating from the 1850s onward.
This all-inclusive initiative by NGMA not only promotes creative learning and support for artists during the pandemic but also aims to build a robust artistic community in India. By continuing to engage, inspire and connect artists and enthusiasts alike, the NGMA is leading the way in keeping the spirit of art and creativity alive during these challenging times.
