Oktoberfest is a two-week long annual festival celebrated in Munich, Germany. It concludes on the first Sunday in October. Its origin can be traced to 1819 celebration of the marriage of the crown prince of Bavaria, who later became King Louis I. In the modern era, the festival involves consumption of around 2 million gallons of beer in Munich along with parades representing breweries. Officials recently announced the cancellation of celebrations for the second consecutive year amid concerns of COVID-19 surge.
