The Operation Satark was launched in New Delhi by the Delhi Police force. Under the operation, the police forces conducted foot patrolling in the city. It was done to check on the routine nuisance mongers. The intention was to instill confidence among the city dwellers.
About Operation Satark
The operation was begun by the South West District Police of Delhi. It aimed to make public areas safer by increasing police visibility, extensive patrolling. This was done to build the confidence of the metropolitans especially during the festive season. During the operation, the policemen also worked with the vulnerable such as women, children and seniors. Around 200 policemen were deployed from each district. They also conducted door-to-door surveys in some areas, especially in those areas where the accommodation was readily available in rental basis. During the operation, seven two wheelers were seized and 14 were arrested under Delhi Police Act. The act was legislated in 1978. The Delhi police comes under the control of Home Ministry, that is, under the central government. This is mainly because the Delhi police force has a special responsibility of VIP security. Apart from this they indulge in investigating crimes, controlling criminal activities, control traffic problem.
