Over 50 Lakh Benefit from Rajasthan’s Indira Rasoi Yojana

Initiated in August 2020, the Indira Rasoi Yojana scheme has come to assist more than 50 lakh individuals in Rajasthan, as reported by recent news. The goal of this operation is the provision of nutritious meals at a subsidized cost to those most in need, not once but twice a day.

The Aim and Content of the Meals

The ambition of the Indira Rasoi Yojana goes beyond providing food; it’s to ensure that the underprivileged have access to a balanced diet. Each plate under this scheme consists of 100 grams each of pulses and vegetables, supplemented with 250 grams of chapati and a side of pickles. Interestingly, this initiative aligns perfectly with the theme of the World Food Day 2020 which calls us to “grow, nourish, and sustain together”.

Implementation Approach

The execution of the scheme is operated by roping in local voluntary organizations. These groups are instrumental in setting up the centers in strategic locations like bus stands, railway stations, and hospitals. Their role crucially extends to ensuring successful implementation of the scheme.

An Overview of the Background

Previously, Rajasthan was served by the Annapurna Rasoi Yojana, which provided breakfast and lunch, inspired by the Tamil Nadu’s Amma Unavagam (Mother’s Canteen). However, when the current government took over, they phased out the old scheme and introduced the Indira Rasoi Yojana.

Monitoring of the Scheme

Monitoring the proper roll-out of this scheme is essential. Thus, a committee, chaired by the District Collector, has been established to oversee the implementation. Innovatively, a special app has been developed for monitoring the quality of the food being served under the scheme, ensuring accountability and transparency.

Scheme’s Target and Current Stand

The Indira Rasoi Yojana has set its sights high, planning to serve 1.34 lakh people every day in the state. As of now, the scheme has reached a milestone by benefiting 50.30 lakh individuals across Rajasthan, showing significant progress toward reaching the desired target.

The Indira Rasoi Yojana, since its launch in August 2020, has been a significant actor in the battle against hunger and malnutrition in Rajasthan. With efficient monitoring systems and the help of local voluntary organizations, this scheme is poised to nourish Rajasthan’s needy by providing them with nutritious food at discounted rates.
