Pradhan Mantri Atmanirbhar Swasth Bharat Yojana was announced on February during the Union Budget 2021-22. Its overall outlay is around Rs.64,180 crore and will be implemented until FY 2025-26.
Under this scheme, the government will strengthen healthcare sector in the country by establishing additional healthcare facilities in rural areas, setting up Integrated Public Health Labs in all districts, strengthening the National Centre for Disease Control etc. The scheme also seeks to set up a national institution for One Health, a Regional Research Platform for WHO South East Asia Region, 9 Bio-Safety Level III laboratories and four regional National Institutes for Virology.
