The Indian Armed Forces are looking to acquire 18 armed Predator MQ 9A drones from the United States to enhance the country’s air defense. These unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are capable of flying up to 50,000 feet for a maximum duration of 24 hours and are equipped with air-to-ground missiles and air-to-air missiles.

Long Endurance

The UAV has a maximum flight duration of 24 hours, which allows it to carry out prolonged missions without the need for refueling.

High Altitude Capability

The Predator MQ 9A drone is capable of flying up to 50,000 feet, which gives it a clear advantage over other UAVs in terms of altitude capabilities.

Weapon Capability

The UAV is equipped with Hellfire air-to-ground missiles and air-to-air missiles, making it capable of carrying out attack missions against ground and aerial targets.

Advanced Sensors

Distribution among the Three Armed Forces

The Indian Armed Forces are set to receive a total of 18 Predator MQ 9A drones, with six being provided to each of the three armed forces. This allocation will enable each of the armed forces to enhance their air defense capabilities and improve their ability to conduct operations in different domains.
