The planned Prime Minister?s museum is dedicated to all the Prime Ministers of India and aims to give visitors a complete picture of the ongoing leadership. It will be a single institution where visitors can learn more about the Prime Minister’s Office, its role and evolution, as well as the centrality of governance at the coalition level.

This museum will portray modern India through the collections of each Indian Prime Minister, their works, their lives, and their significant contributions to nation-building. It will bring the democratic experience of India to life for visitors. It will encourage curiosity and research on the role of the Prime Minister and his office. Through state-of-the-art audio-visual technology and effective forms of communication, the visitors and young people will be provided with an interactive and informative experience. The new museum includes the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library which is located at the Teen Murti Estate. This estate is the first official residence of Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. The proposed museum will be built at the cost 271 crore rupees.
Structure of the Museum
The total area of ??Teen Marty Estate is 25.50 acres, of which the Nehru Memorial Museum building is 4286 square meters and the library building is 4552 square meters. Together, the two areas occupy approximately 2 hectares. The government has decided to build the Prime Ministers Museum on the 23 hectares which is remaining of the Teen Murti Estate, which falls under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. The museum building complex consists of a basement, ground floors and upper floors, and is built on a building area of ??10,975.36 m with galleries on all three levels.
The planned museum will include an orientation room, a souvenir shop, a room for holding lectures and discussions, a seminar room, an auditorium, a workshop area, a library, a documentation room, a laboratory and an archive area. The proposed museum design is intended to symbolize emerging and emerging India and has been shaped over the years by its prominent leaders to collect, document and research information relevant to all Indian Prime Ministers.
Objection raised against the museum
The proposed construction of the museum was disputed and rejected by leaders of Congress and several members of the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library Association (NMML), believing that the museum would damage Nehru’s heritage. In addition, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh sent a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi asking the government to leave NMML “undisturbed.” He said that museums today respect both history and heritage.
