RS Sharma: New Chief Executive of Ayushman Bharat

RS Sharma has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer of the National Health Authority’s (NHA) health insurance scheme Ayushman Bharat or Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana.

PM-JAY

Ayushman Bharat or Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana is a scheme of the government to offer free healthcare services to 40% of people of the country. The scheme was launched as the second component of Ayushman Bharat on September 23, 2018, in Ranchi, Jharkhand. It was launched by PM Narendra Modi. The scheme provides a cover of Rs 5 lakh per family per year for secondary and tertiary hospitalization in private and public enlisted hospitals of the country.

Ayushman Bharat is a scheme launched to achieve Universal Health Coverage (UHC). The first component of the scheme was Health and Wellness Centres (HWCs). These centres provide primary health care to the people close to their homes. The government announced the creation of 1,50,000 Health and Wellness Centres (HWCs) in February 2018.
