Sahakar Pragya

Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Rural Development, Panchayat Raj, Narendra Singh Tomar launched ‘Sahakar Pragya’ on November 24. It is a set of 45 new training modules developed by the National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC).

Key Points

  • NCDC will provide training to Primary cooperative societies in rural areas of the country at LINAC (Lakshmanrao Inamdar National Cooperative Research and Development Academy) and Regional Training Centres across the country.
  • Sahakar Pragya aims to increase the training capacity of NCDC through its 18 regional centres at Bhopal, Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Gandhinagar, Ranchi, Guwahati, Jaipur, Kolkata, Raipur, Lucknow, Patna,  Hyderabad, Thiruvananthapuram, Pune, Dehradun, and Shimla.
  • The training programmes will be supported under NCDC schemes and various other schemes of the Union Government including 10000 FPO formation, Agri Infrastructure Fund scheme, PM- FME scheme, PMMSY, etc.
  • NCDC has come out as a financing powerhouse and as of now has loans of Rs 1.58 lakh crore to cooperative societies of various categories in the country.
  • NCDC had earlier launched various initiatives including Sahakar Cooptube NCDC Channel, Sahakar-22, Sahakar Mitra, Yuva Sahakar and Ayushman Sahakar.

India’s Cooperative Sector

The cooperative sector of India has a huge role in making the poor village farmers self-reliant. India has a wide network of more than 8.50 lakh cooperative societies with approximately 290 million members. Also, about 94 percent of the farmers are members of at least one cooperative society.

National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC)

NCDC is an organization set up under the jurisdiction of the government of India under an Act of Indian Parliament on 13 March 1963. It plans, finance, and promotes programmes for processing, production, storage, marketing, import and export of agricultural produce, food materials, and other commodities like insecticides, fertilizers, kerosene oil, rubber, agricultural machinery, etc. NCDC also provides financial assistance to cooperatives in the country.
