Study Questions Lightning Existence on Venus

Scientists have been debating for years whether or not Venus experiences lightning. A recent research study, utilizing data from NASA’s Parker Solar Probe, has raised doubts about the presence of this elemental occurrence on our solar system’s second planet.

The study, published in Geophysical Review Letters, suggests that what has previously been defined as “lightning” could potentially be disturbances in Venus’ weak magnetic fields. Historically, the scientific community hypothesized constant lightning activity on Venus. However, signals collected by various instruments over time seem to contest this belief. Another study theorizes that previous alleged sightings of lightning may have been misinterpreted and were instead meteor burn-ups in the atmosphere.

Venus is renowned for its extreme conditions, boasting the highest temperatures in our solar system alongside intense atmospheric pressure.

Military Nursing Service Commemorates its 98th Raising Day

On October 1st, 2023, the Military Nursing Service (MNS), one of the oldest and most distinguished all-women services within the Armed Forces, celebrated its 98th Raising Day. The MNS, known for its significant contributions to healthcare in India, traces its origins back to the pre-independence colonial era when soldiers from both British and Indian backgrounds served in the British Army.

The Indian Army Nursing Services (IANS) was formally founded in 1888, marking the advent of military nursing in India. During the First and Second World Wars, IANS officers were instrumental in providing medical care to wounded soldiers. The Permanent Nursing Service, eventually designated as the Indian Military Nursing Service, was established in the Indian Army on October 1st, 1926. Post-Independence, the MNS became part of the Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS).

Additionally, senior State Government representatives from three rotating states will also be part of the Board.

The Board’s strategic approach aims to grow the spice market in India even further, given that it currently controls a staggering 62% share of the global turmeric trade.

A New Fish Species Discovered in Nagaland’s Milak River

Researchers recently identified a previously unknown fish species, Badis limaakumi, in Nagaland’s Milak River. This newly discovered species, named in honor of Limaakum, a zoology professor at Fazl Ali College in Nagaland, distinguishes itself with a unique opercular blotch near its opercular spine. Other distinguishing features include the absence of spots on its sides and cleithrum, and fewer lateral line scales.

The fish belongs to the Badidae or Badis family, a type of freshwater fish often found in slow or moderately flowing streams. Besides being a culinary delight in various regions across India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan, Thailand, and Myanmar, fish from the Badis family are known for their color-changing abilities, earning them the moniker of “chameleon fish”. This unique ability aids them in blending with their surroundings when under stress.
