Tundra Soils

Tundra soils are found in cold, arid regions. They have a thin layer of organic matter. Permafrost lies beneath the surface, preventing drainage. These soils are nutrient-poor and acidic. Vegetation is limited to mosses, lichens, and low shrubs. The harsh climate affects soil formation. Tundra ecosystems are fragile and sensitive to climate change. They play a crucial role in global carbon storage.
