The Ministry of Education has announced the organization of a literacy week to mark International Literacy Day on September 8th. This initiative, part of the ULLAS- Nav Bharat Saksharta Karyakram, aims to promote a sense of responsibility and citizen engagement in literacy. It seeks to enhance literacy levels across India and boost registrations for learners and volunteers on the ULLAS mobile app. ULLAS- Nav Bharat Saksharta Karyakram, aligned with the National Education Policy 2020, is a Centrally Sponsored Scheme that encompasses foundational literacy, life skills, basic education, vocational skills, and continuing education. The scheme’s slogan is ‘Jan Jan Sakshar,’ and it targets non-literates aged 15 and above across all states and union territories.
