What is Jerenga Pothar?
Jerenga Pothar is an open field in Sivasagar in Upper Assam. It is connected with the famous story of Joymoti, an Ahom princess who lived in the 17th century. Sivasagar was the seat of the Ahom dynasty that rules over Assam for 6 centuries. Joymoti is said to have sacrificed her life for her husband, Prince Godapani, who went on to become the king of Assam. Jerenga Pothar lies in the vicinity of several protected sites like the Na Pukhuri tank, Pohu Garh natural zoo, etc.
