World Coconut Day
World Coconut Day is a observed on September 2 to raise global awareness about the importance of coconut, which is known for having numerous benefits. Coconut, which belongs to the drupe family, is one of the most versatile fruit having anti-fungal, anti-viral, anti-oxidant and anti-bacterial elements. Currently Indonesia is the top producer of coconut and India the third.
The day is observed mostly in Asian-Pacific countries by the Asian and Pacific Coconut Community (APCC) Â– an multilateral organization that supervises and promotes coconut production. It was observed for the first time in 2009. It commemorates the establishment of the APCC.
