World No Tobacco Day
The World No Tobacco Day is observed on 31st May each year to create public awareness about the adverse health implication of using and manufacturing tobacco. It was launched by the World Health Organisation in 1987 to bring the global spotlight on the tobacco epidemic and to prevent the deaths and diseases it causes. The theme for World No Tobacco Day 2021 is “Commit to Quit”.
On this occasion, the World Health Organisation conferred the Director-General Special Recognition Award to Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan for his efforts in controlling tobacco consumption in India.
