12 Companies Win National Technology Awards 2020

The National Technology Awards 2020 has recently announced its list of honorees. Recognizing innovation in indigenous technologies, this prestigious award program has chosen 12 companies this year to be highlighted for their success in commercializing homegrown tech solutions. These awards, issued by the Technology Development Board (TDB) every year, are divided into three pivotal categories: indigenous technologies, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), and Startups.

National Award for Successful Commercialization of Indigenous Technology

This category awards organizations that have managed to successfully develop and market an original, homegrown technology. Should the technology developer and the commercializing company be separate entities, each stands to receive Rs. 25 Lakh and a trophy. The purpose of this award is to motivate and inspire enterprises to bring their innovative technologies from the drawing board to the marketplace.

The National Award for MSMEs

This category focuses on recognizing micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) that have accomplished the successful commercialization of a product based on an indigenous technology. The selected MSMEs in this category are given a cash prize of Rs. 15 lakhs alongside a trophy. This not only awards successful enterprises but also encourages others to strive for technological innovation and commercialization.

National Award for Technology Start-ups

Start-ups are known for their innovative breakthroughs and promising new technologies. This category awards tech startups that demonstrate significant potential for commercialization. The winner in this category receives a generous cash award of Rs. 15 Lakh, in addition to a trophy. By providing such recognition, this award aims to fuel the growth of technological advancements within start-ups.

These awards offer a platform for Indian industries and their technology providers, who work as a team to bring innovative technology products to the market. They contribute to the vision of an “Atmanirbhar Bharat” or self-reliant India.

About the Technology Development Board

The Technology Development Board (TDB) is a statutory body of the Government of India operating under the Department of Science of Technology. Established in 1996, the TDB’s role is to provide financial assistance to companies aiming to commercialize indigenous technologies or adapt imported technologies for domestic use. The board also organizes National Technology Day on the 11th of May every year.

All this information comes from the Press Information Bureau (PIB), the nodal agency of the Government of India for communicating to the media on behalf of the government. In concluding, the National Technology Awards represents an important initiative by the Indian government to foster innovation and encourage the growth of technology-focused organizations in the country.
