The 17th Tribal Youth Exchange Programme will be held in Kancheepuram district, Tamil Nadu. The week-long camp will bring together 200 tribal youth from Left Wing Extremism-affected districts of Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand and Maharashtra. The initiative is designed to expose participants to different parts of the country, promote cultural understanding and strengthen national integration.
Programme Overview
The exchange programme is a flagship initiative of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, in coordination with the Ministry of Home Affairs. It will be inaugurated by the Governor of Tamil Nadu, R. N. Ravi. The camp aims to provide first-hand exposure to India’s social and cultural diversity.
Participants and Coverage
- 200 tribal youth will take part in the programme.
- Participants come from districts affected by Left Wing Extremism.
- The states covered are Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand and Maharashtra.
- For many participants, this will be their first train journey.
Activities and Exposure
The programme will include cultural exchange activities and interactions that help participants understand different traditions and lifestyles. They will also receive briefings on skill development initiatives. Such exposure is intended to build confidence and broaden awareness of opportunities outside their home regions.
Industrial Visits and Career Awareness
Participants will visit industries in Kancheepuram district to learn about employment opportunities and career prospects. The visits are expected to familiarise them with local economic activity and the role of industry in livelihood generation. The programme combines cultural learning with practical awareness of skills and jobs.
