6 women led startups win COVID-19 Shri Shakti Challenge.

Six women led startups have won the COVID-19 Shri Shakti Challenge. The challenge was organised jointly by MyGov and UN Women in April 2020.


The challenge was organised with an objective of encouraging and involving women led startups to come up with innovative solutions. The innovative solutions were to help in fighting against COVID-19.

COVID-19 Shri Shakti Challenge

This unique challenge was hosted on the Innovate platform of MyGov. The challenge called for applications from women led startups. It had also called the startups who have solutions to address issues being faced by a number of women. The Challenge was implemented in two stages- Ideation stage and Proof of Concept (PoC) Stage.


Top 3 winners are:

  1. Dr P Gayatri Hela – She is the founder of Bengaluru-based Resada Lifesciences Private Limited. The startup designs and develops home and agricultural-based products using plant extracts rather than the synthetic chemicals. Dr Gayatri came up with this idea since germs and other bacteria/viruses have become resistant to chemicals over time. For Shri Shakti Challenge, Dr Gayatri had submitted the innovative product which is a non-alcoholic hand sanitizer.
  2. Romita Ghosh– She is a cancer survivor and she founded the Shimla-based iHeal HealthTech Private Limited. This is healthcare start-up that is standing at the forefront of the fight against COVID-19. It has been providing PPE kits to hospitals. Romita also built a Made in India UV sterilization box that makes PPEs and masks safely reusable.
  3. Dr Anjana Ramkumar and Dr Anushka Ashokan– Both are the product manager and co-founder of Kerala based Thanmatra Innovations Private Limited. They have come up with the innovative solution of an anti-microbial solution. The solution can be sprayed on handkerchiefs or dupattas in order to make them safe to be used as Face Masks. The solution is also safe for kids.
