Delhi is gearing up to introduce the Safe City Project, a noble task designed to enhance the safety of its citizens, with a special emphasis on women’s well-being. Orchestrated by the Ministry of Home Affairs in conjunction with the Ministry of Women and Child Development under the Nirbhaya Fund, this initiative aspires to establish a safe, secure, and empowering milieu for women and girls in public spaces.
The project is being rolled out in eight metro cities across India, including Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, and Bengaluru. It involves the installation of CCTV cameras and the establishment of a command-and-control center replete with functionalities such as video analytics, AI, machine learning, and facial recognition technologies. The expense for this endeavor is divided in a 60:40 ratio between the Central government.
Details of the Delhi Project
Specially financed by the Central government, the Delhi project will be supervised by Delhi Police, in collaboration with Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), RailTel and NEC India. RailTel and NEC India have been entrusted with the responsibility of installing CCTV cameras and connecting them to feeders and main servers respectively.
In addition to the current infrastructure, 88 Prakhar Vans equipped with state-of-the-art technology such as mobile data terminals and body-worn cameras will be dispatched throughout the city.
