Kirti Vardhan Singh Attends Yangon Community Reception

Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh attended a community reception in Yangon, Myanmar, where more than 300 guests from the Indian diaspora and friends of India were present. The event brought into light India’s cultural outreach in Myanmar and the role of the diaspora in strengthening bilateral people-to-people ties.

Community Reception in Yangon

The reception brought together members of the Indian community and supporters of India in Myanmar. It served as a platform to recognise the long-standing links between the two countries through shared cultural and social engagement.

ICCR and Cultural Diplomacy

On the foundation day of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, the minister noted the council’s role in deepening cultural ties with Myanmar. ICCR-supported activities include cultural exchanges, scholarships, and classes in Indian music, dance, yoga and Hindi at the Mission’s Cultural Centre.

Role of the Indian Diaspora

  • The minister appreciated the diaspora’s contribution to India-Myanmar relations.
  • He brought into light their enduring links with India and their role in promoting goodwill.
  • He also referred to government initiatives such as the Person of Indian Origin and Overseas Citizen of India schemes.
  • Other initiatives mentioned included scholarships and the Know India Programme.

India-Myanmar People-to-People Ties

The event reflected India’s broader emphasis on cultural diplomacy and diaspora engagement in its neighbourhood policy. Such initiatives support educational exchange, cultural familiarity and stronger societal connections between India and Myanmar.
