The 13th edition of Aero India, a premier global event in the aviation sector, is on the horizon. The online registrations are now open for the event scheduled for February 2021 at the Air Force Station, Bengaluru (Karnataka). The biennial show is a significant event that attracts participants and enthusiasts from around the world.

Aero India: An Introduction

Aero India is a major international airshow that takes place every two years. It has earned a reputation for being a leading global event that brings together military and civil aircraft manufacturers from India and internationally. Additionally, industries supporting these manufacturers, military authorities, government dignitaries, and business visitors make their presence felt at the event.

A Platform for Interaction and Development

The airshow serves as a platform fostering the exchange of information, ideas, and new advancements in the aviation sector. Beyond this, it also provides a significant boost to the domestic aviation industry. In line with the Make in India initiative, the event further promotes and supports locally produced aircraft and technologies.

Yelahanka Air Base: The Traditional Venue

The Yelahanka air base, located approximately 30 km from the city centre of Bengaluru, has been hosting Aero India since its inception in 1996. Each year, the event sees a large turnout of visitors and participants, drawn by the opportunity to witness and interact with the latest developments in aviation technology.

Organisers of Aero India: A Look into the Past and Future

The previous edition of the airshow in 2019 was organised by Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. (HAL). Looking forward to 2021, the Defence Exhibition Organisation (DEO), under the Ministry of Defence, will be taking up the mantle of organisation. The DEO was established in 1981 as an autonomous body of the Indian Government, dedicated to promoting the potential for exports within the Indian defence industry.

DEO’s Role and Responsibilities

The DEO is entrusted with the responsibility of organising international exhibitions such as the DefExpo and facilitating Indian participation at overseas exhibitions. Its role is vital in showcasing the capabilities and advancements of India’s defence industry on the global stage.
