Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority Meeting

The Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority (APCRDA) convened meeting under Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. The meeting focused on approving the construction of key governmental buildings and infrastructure in Amaravati. Five iconic towers were also approved, with a total constructed area of 68,88,064 square feet. These towers will cost ₹4,688 crore. Among them is the Government Administration Department (GAD) tower, which will have 47 floors and cover 17,03,433 square feet. These towers will serve as offices for various governmental departments, enhancing administrative efficiency.

Land Pooling Scheme and Infrastructure Development

The meeting sanctioned the laying of Land Pooling Scheme (LPS) roads, spanning 579.50 km. This infrastructure will include sewerage and drinking water lines, stormwater drains, and electrical and telecom cables. The total cost for these developments is ₹9,699 crore. This extensive planning aims to provide essential services and connectivity in the capital region.

Cost Escalation

Municipal Administration Minister P. Narayana brought into light cost escalations in construction. Since the fiscal year 2017-18, the costs have risen by 49.02%. The costs for iconic towers, flood canals, and LPS works have increased by 41%, 39%, and between 28% to 35%, respectively. This escalation reflects broader economic trends and challenges in the construction sector.
