Assam Medicare Service Persons, Medicare Service Institutions (Prevention of Violence and Damage to Properties) Act, 2011

The Assam Medicare Service Persons, Medicare Service Institutions (Prevention of Violence and Damage to Properties) Act, 2011 was enacted in 2013 to put a stop to the violence against healthcare workers. According to this law, anyone who indulges in violence against medical personnel shall be imprisoned for up to 3 years and will be fined with a maximum of Rs.50,000. The accused will also be required to compensate for the damage or loss of property in healthcare institutes.
The state government had recently directed the hospitals to put up the provisions of the law in local language so that public is more aware of the consequences of violent activities against medical institutions and personnel.
