In a food web, different species occupy specific roles, and the loss of one species can have cascading effects on others. For instance, the decline of top predators can lead to an overabundance of their prey, disrupting the balance of the entire ecosystem.

  • Agricultural Biodiversity: In agriculture, the use of diverse crop varieties can enhance resilience to pests and diseases. Monocultures, on the other hand, are more susceptible to widespread crop failures. Crop diversity, through practices like intercropping, helps maintain soil health, reduce the need for pesticides, and secure food production.
