BrahMos Missile

The BrahMos missile is a type of supersonic cruise missile that has been jointly developed by India’s DRDO and Russia’s NPO Mashinostroyeniya, forming BrahMos Aerospace. The missile can be launched from various platforms like submarines, ships, airplanes, or land, making it highly versatile. It is currently the fastest supersonic missile in the world, with a speed of Mach 2.8 to 3.0, making it a highly potent weapon in India’s arsenal.

Naming of the BrahMos Missile

The missile is named after two rivers, the Brahmaputra in India and the Moskva in Russia, symbolizing the partnership between the two countries in developing the missile. The missile’s name is also an acronym derived from the two countries’ names, Brah for India and Mos for Russia.

Successful Test Firing of BrahMos Missile

Recently, the Indian Navy successfully test fired the ship-launched version of the BrahMos missile from an indigenously built stealth destroyer INS Chennai.
