C-DOT Partners for Telecom Security Innovation

In an important move for India’s telecommunications sector, the Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT) has entered into an agreement with the C R Rao AIMSCS. This partnership aims to develop the Side Channel Leakage Capture Infrastructure and Analysis (SCLCIA) Solution. The initiative is part of the C-DOT Collaborative Research Program (CCRP) designed to encourage collaboration among Indian start-ups, organisations, research, and academic institutions.

About Side Channel Attacks

Side channel attacks exploit unintentional information leakage from cryptographic systems. These leaks can occur through various channels like power consumption, electromagnetic emissions, or timing information. By analysing these channels, attackers can potentially recover secret keys or sensitive data. Therefore, developing effective countermeasures is crucial for enhancing security in cryptographic implementations.

The Role of C-DOT and AIMSCS

C-DOT serves as the premier telecom research and development centre under the Government of India. It focuses on creating indigenous technologies to meet the unique communication needs of the country. The C R Rao AIMSCS is dedicated to advanced research in cryptography and information security, making it an ideal collaborator for this project. Together, they aim to build infrastructure that captures side channel data leakages in real-time.

Project Goals and Significance

The SCLCIA project will involve creating both software and hardware components. These will work together to monitor power usage changes during cryptographic algorithm execution on an FPGA.
