Clean Ganga Fund

Clean Ganga Fund was set up in 2015 by the Central Government to finance the Namami Gange programme and other activities required for conserving River Ganga. The fund is sourced from voluntary contributions from residents of India and NRIs/Person of Indian Origin (PIO) and others.
The fund is managed by a Trust headed by the Finance Minister. It is in charge of granting approval to projects focusing on cleaning River Ganga. It financed afforestation along the banks of the river in Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Bihar and West Bengal. It was also used for renovating the river banks and cremation grounds.
