Deep Ocean Mission

The Deep Ocean Mission recently received the approval of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs. The mission’s objective is to explore deep ocean, promote sustainable use of marine resources and develop maritime technologies enabling the same.

The overall budget of this mission is expected to be Rs.4,077 crore for a period of five years. The outlay for the first phase, which is to be implemented between 2021 and 2024, is Rs.2,823.4 crore. The mission has six components, focusing on deep ocean technological growth, climate vulnerability, deep-sea biodiversity, energy etc. It will support domestic production of technologies required to support India’s interests in the deep-sea.
