FAME II scheme
The FAME II scheme was launched in April 2019 by the Indian Government to speed up the adoption of EVs in the country. Its outlay is Rs.10,000 crore. The scheme will support the adoption of 7,000 e-buses, 5 lakh e-three-wheelers, 55,000 e-passenger vehicles and a million e-two-wheelers.
The Central Government is currently mulling the extension of this subsidy scheme to buyers of passenger cars meant for personal use. Electric bicycles will also be included in the scheme to reduce the cost and increase its adoption. Currently, the scheme covers only electric two-wheelers, three wheelers, four-wheeled passenger vehicles and goods carrying vehicles.
