Disaster Management Act, 2005

The Disaster Management Act, 2005 is a legislation that provides for the effective management of disasters and related matters. It focuses on disaster response, relief and rehabilitation required for bringing the lives of victims back to normal.
The Ministry of Home Affairs recently informed the Supreme Court that families of those who died by suicide within 30 days after being diagnosed with COVID-19 infection would be eligible for financial help under the Disaster Management Act. The National Disaster Management Authority had earlier issued the guidelines recommending Rs.50,000 each as ex gratia assistance for families of people who died of COVID-19.
