Fares Elbakh

Weightlifter Fares Elbakh made history recently by becoming Qatar’s first Olympic champion since the country had first sent its athletes to Olympics in 1984 in Los Angeles. The weightlifter, also known as Meso Hassona, won gold medal in the men’s 96 kilograms weightlifting category at the Tokyo Olympics.
Fares Elbakh had set an Olympic record after lifting a weight of 225 kg. It is one of the two Olympic records he broke on a single day, with the other achievement being the massive combined score of 402. He tried to achieve a world record 232 kg clean and jerk, but was unable to make the lift.
