Gujarat Tops TB-Free India Campaign Improvement Ranking

On 1 July 2026 Gujarat was ranked first in the “States with Most Improvement” category for 2025 under the Centre’s TB‑Free India Campaign.

Key outcomes

  • Reduction 2015–2023: New TB cases down 34%; TB mortality down 37%.
  • Incidence 2024: Estimated 186 per 100,000 population; 6th lowest among all states and 4th among large states.
  • Jan–May 2026 delivery: 57,334 TB patients identified against a target of 58,333 (98.3%); 50,928 (91%) became disease‑free within a short period.
  • 100‑Day Campaign outputs (Mar–May 2026): 23.38 lakh screened; 15.04 lakh chest X‑rays; 5.05 lakh NAATs; 32,377 new patients diagnosed and started on treatment.

Campaign methods & diagnostics

  • Active case finding: Door‑to‑door surveillance in 5,012 high‑risk villages.
  • Diagnostics: Use of NAAT (nucleic acid amplification tests, e.g., CBNAAT/TrueNAT) for rapid molecular detection and chest X‑ray screening for presumptive cases.

Programmatic & financial measures

  • Ni‑Kshay Poshan Yojana: Rs 57.60 crore disbursed to 1,05,238 TB patients in 2025 as nutritional support (DBT mechanism).
  • Nikshay Mitras & support: 30,992 volunteers; 5,50,184 nutrition kits distributed.
  • Community elimination: 3,971 gram panchayats declared TB‑Free, covering 27% of the state’s gram panchayats.
