IMD Weather Services Added to Umang Mobile App

The recent inclusion of the Indian Meteorological Department’s (IMD) weather services on the Umang Mobile App by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) is a significant development. This partnership aims at providing users with accurate and timely weather forecasts to help them plan their activities while ensuring safety and security from extreme weather events.

IMD Services on Umang App: Features and Benefits

Users can now access the IMD weather services via the Umang App to get a detailed forecast of their city. The app will provide information for the following seven weather related services: current weather, rainfall information, warnings, cyclones, and more. Key information such as temperature, humidity, sunrise, sunset timings, among others, will also be provided.

With the ability to predict 7-day forecasts, as well as information on the past 24 hours, this digitised initiative will be beneficial in planning and making informed decisions. It can be particularly useful for farmers who can get timely updates about the weather conditions, helping them take precautions accordingly. Ultimately, this service proves to be significant in preventing loss of lives, property and livelihood caused by severe weather conditions.
