Inauguration of New Section of Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC)

Prime Minister will inaugurate a new section of the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) on December 29. With the launch of this largest section of the Eastern DFC, the operations of one of the largest rail infrastructure projects of the country have been launched.

Key Points

  • The section to be inaugurated is the Khurja-Bhaupur (Kanpur) section of the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor. This 351-km section is ready and all trials and testing has been completed.
  • After the inauguration of the new Khurja-Bhaupur section, a significant number of freight trains and container traffic will be diverted to the freight corridor.
  • This will automatically result in faster movement of goods and also less congestion in the existing railway line carrying traffic to North India.
  • The new section has been built at the cost of Rs 5,750 crore.
  • This project of building the Khurja-Bhaupur section was also funded by the World Bank.
  • The new stations in Khurja-Bhaupur section are Kanchausi, Bhaupur, Khurja, Achalda, Bhadan, Tundla, Hathras, Ekdil, Daudkan and Makhanpur.
  • Some of the major industrial areas that cross this section are Khurja, Aligarh, Agra, and Firozabad.
  • The new section has 414 minor bridges, 19 major bridges, and 7 railway flyovers.

Operation Control Centre

The prime minister will also unveil the Operation Control Centre of the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor along with the new section. This Operation Control Centre is based in Prayagraj. The control centre has multiple screens for keeping a track of all real-time train movements on the freight corridor.
