Odisha has marked a major industrial milestone with the inauguration of India’s first flat rolled products aluminium unit at Hindalco’s Aditya Aluminium plant in Lapanga, Sambalpur district. The event also included the launch of a specialised battery foil unit and the foundation stone laying for a large smelter expansion. The projects are expected to strengthen downstream aluminium manufacturing, boost industrial capacity, and create thousands of jobs in western Odisha.

Western Odisha as Industrial Hub
Western Odisha is increasingly being positioned as a manufacturing centre with large-scale industrial investments. The state leadership has brought into light that the region is moving from a resource-based economy towards a more diversified industrial base. The focus is on linking investment with local employment, skill development, and improved livelihoods. The expansion is also aligned with Odisha’s broader push for downstream industries and value addition in minerals and metals.
Enterprise Odisha and Future Projects
Alongside the industrial launches, the 25th CII Enterprise Odisha Exhibition 2026 was inaugurated in Rourkela. The event is showcasing industrial innovations, sectoral capabilities, and business opportunities. The Chief Minister is also scheduled to participate in sectoral roundtables and business-to-government meetings, reflecting the state’s effort to attract further investment and accelerate industrial growth.
