International Coastal Cleanup Day
The International Coastal Cleanup Day is observed on third Saturday of September. This year, it falls on September 18. The theme for this year is “Keep trash in the bin and not in the ocean”. The purpose of this global initiative is to promote community efforts towards cleaning up litters and debris in the coastlines.
The International Coastal Cleanup Day was observed for the first time in 1986. It seeks to promote public awareness about the adverse impacts of litter in oceans, coastlines and beaches. On this year’s event, the Indian Navy and Coast Guard conducted clean up drives in various beaches in the country.
