International Day for Biological Diversity

The International Day for Biological Diversity is observed on May 22 annually to increase the international awareness and understanding of biodiversity and the related issues. This day commemorates the day when the Convention of Biological Diversity came into effect. The CBD is a multilateral treaty that was signed in 1992 with the focus on three main goals – conservation of biodiversity, sustainable use of its components and fair sharing of its benefits.
