International Eni Award: Prof. C.N.R Rao wins the award
Bharat Ratna awardee Professor C.N.R. Rao has been conferred the International Eni Award 2020 for research into energy storage and renewable energy sources. This award is also called the Energy Frontier award.
This award is also considered to be the Nobel Prize in the area of Energy Research.
Work of Professor Rao
- Professor Rao, for the benefit of all mankind, has been working on hydrogen energy as the sole energy source.
- Solar production of hydrogen, electrochemical and photochemical production of hydrogen, Hydrogen storage and non-metallic catalysis are some of the highlights of the work done by him.
- Professor Rao has received the Energy Frontier Award for his exemplary work on carbon nanotubes, metal oxides and other materials and two-dimensional systems that includes boron-nitrogen-carbon hybrid materials, graphene and molybdenum sulfide (Molybdenite – MoS2) for green hydrogen production and various energy applications.
- Professor Rao has developed some highly innovative materials.
Award will be presented on
On 14th October 2021, during an official ceremony held at the Quirinal Palace in Rome, the Eni Awards 2020 will be presented. This presentation ceremony will also be attended by Sergio Mattarella, President of Italy.
About the award
This award is presented by the Italian gas company ENI with the aim of this award being to promote better use of the energy sources and encourage the newer generations of researchers to work on such energy resources. Eni also places significant importance on innovations on this field
This award includes a specially minted gold medal and a cash prize along with it.
