International Version of UMANG Application Launched

The Minister for Electronics and Information Technology, Ravi Shankar Prasad, have launched the international version of the UMANG application on November 23, 2020.

Highlights

  • The international version of the application was launched in coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs.
  • It has been launched for select countries including  Australia, USA, UK, UAE, Canada, Netherlands, Singapore and New Zealand.
  • The application was launched to mark the completion of 3 years of UMANG application and the achievement of providing 2000 plus services.
  • The application was launched in an online conference that was organized under the chairmanship of the Ravi Shankar Prasad.

Significance

  • The international version of the UMANG application would help Indian international students, NRIs and Indian tourists abroad to avail the services of Government of India anytime.
  • The application would also help in taking India to the world through ‘Indian Culture’ services that are available on app. It would create interest amongst foreign tourists and encourage them to visit India.

Other launches

  • Apart from the application, the Union Minister for electronics and information technology also launched an e-Book. This e-Book also presents major milestones of UMANG.
  • He also unveiled the UMANG Awards for Partner Departments of Centre and States that has been newly instituted. This award is based on the highest number of transactions across services.

The UMANG mobile app

The UMANG mobile app is the “Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance”. This has been launched by Government of India. The mobile application is all-in-one single, unified, secure, multi-lingual, multi-service Application. It provides access to the high impact services of various departments of the Government of India and the State Governments.
