Karbi-Anglong Agreement

Karbi-Anglong Agreement was signed by the Centre, the Assam government and insurgent groups to bring peace in Karbi-Anglong district – Assam’s largest district that is largely dominated by Karbi people. The peace accord seeks to increase the autonomy of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council, protect Karbis’ identity and ensure economic development of the region without affecting the territorial and administrative integrity of Assam.
Under the Karbi-Anglong Agreement, militant groups will surrender their weapons and the government will ensure the rehabilitation of their cadres. The government will also create a Special Development Package of Rs.1,000 crore for the state to fund developmental projects for five years.
