Naga cucumber was awarded a geographical identification (GI) tag as an agricultural product under the provision of The Geographical Indications of Goods (Registration and Protection) Act, 1999. It is famous for its sweetness and distinctive green colour. It has high potassium content and low calories.
Nagaland has the fifth-highest cultivation of Naga cucumber area-wise and is the third largest producer of this fruit. The other GI tagged products from Nagaland are both the regional variants of tree tomato (tamarillo) and Naga king chilli. GI tag is used for products with a specific geographical origin and reputation, meant to protect the unique traditions of communities from large industries.
