National Conference Report Urges Involvement of Youth in Combating Drug Menace

The National Conference has released a report from its ‘War Against Drug Addiction’ (WADA) committee, highlighting the drug menace as a significant social issue and providing recommendations for addressing it, particularly in Jammu and Kashmir. The report emphasizes the importance of involving youth in the fight against drug addiction and offers strategies to tackle this challenge.

Youth Engagement

The report recommends creating groups of party workers, including young individuals at the constituency level, to make a meaningful and positive impact. These groups are envisioned as support systems to combat drug addiction and offer continuous assistance and guidance to those on the path to recovery. Additionally, the report suggests the establishment of peer monitoring programs and helplines to further support those affected by addiction.

Role of Parliamentarians

The report highlights the role of the party’s parliamentarians in addressing the drug addiction challenge in Jammu and Kashmir. It proposes that members of Parliament conduct meetings with district development commissioners/administrators, along with party leaders and volunteers, to ensure the availability of trained healthcare professionals in vulnerable areas.

Implementation of National Action Plan

The report also recommends that parliamentarians seek intervention in implementing the National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction (NAPDDR). This plan provides financial assistance for preventive education, awareness generation, capacity building, skill development, vocational training, and livelihood support for individuals who have successfully overcome addiction.

The National Conference’s report underscores the need for a coordinated and multifaceted approach to combat drug addiction, with a focus on engaging youth and leveraging the efforts of parliamentarians to address this critical issue in Jammu and Kashmir.
