National Fish Farmers Day

The National Fish Farmers Day is observed on July 10 annually in honour of Professor Dr Hiralal Chaudhury and his colleague Dr Alikunhi, who successfully conducted the induced breeding of major carps for the first time in India in 1957. This day is also celebrated as the foundation day of the National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB) – an autonomous institute under the aegis of the Central Government’s Fisheries Department set up to improve the domestic fish production.
On this occasion, the Union Fisheries Minister launched the Jingles on Domestic Fish Consumption. He also interacted with the beneficiaries of the PMMSY and NFDB schemes.
