National Mathematics Day

National Mathematics Day is observed each year on December 22 to commemorate legendary mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan Aiyangar on his birth anniversary. This day is observed since 2012, when the former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh inaugurated it. Ramanujan was elected to the London Mathematical Society in 1917 and was elected as Fellow of the Royal Society for his contribution on Elliptic Functions and the numbers theory. He was also the first Indian to be elected a Fellow of the Trinity College.
