New Delhi Statement on Environment

The BRICS nations – Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa – adopted the New Delhi Statement on Environment, which aims to further the spirit of Cooperation for Continuity, Consolidation and Consensus among the signatories. It was adopted during the 7th meeting of the BRICS Environment Ministerial 2021, which was chaired by India. These countries’ environmental conservation efforts are vital as they host large number of biodiversity hotspots.
During the meeting, India emphasized the importance of concrete global response to climate crisis, guided by equity, national priorities and circumstances and the principles of ‘Common but Differentiated Responsibilities and Respective Capabilities (CBDR-RC)’.
