Nipah virus
Nipah virus is a zoonotic virus that causes a range of illnesses among humans as well as animals like pigs, resulting in significant health crisis and economic losses. Though the virus caused only few known outbreaks, it infects wide range of animals and causes fatal illness in people. It was first identified in 1998 during the outbreak in Malaysia.
The death rate of the viral infection is 70 per cent. It is not an airborne disease. It is transmitted through infected animals and humans and contaminated foods. There lacks the vaccine to counter the viral infection.
