Platyceps josephi

Platyceps josephi is a new species of banded racer snake found in southern and central Tamil Nadu. It is a non-venomous, medium-sized colubrid snake that lives in the open grasslands with rocky and scrub habitats. Named after the late herpetologist Naveen Joseph, the new species has unique morphological and genetic characteristics when compared to other racer snakes. However, it has few similar characteristics of Platyceps plinii.
